Message From INFBPW President

INFBPW is a group of working and retired women who are committed to helping the women and youth in our communities.

We support pay equity.  We have fun and/or informative programs at our local meetings.  We hold Reality Stores(SM) in our schools in order to promote financial literacy .  We give scholarships to high school seniors.  Our state foundation, IWEF, gives scholarships to older women who are returning to college.

It is my privilege to serve as your state president for the current year. I have been a member of BPW for 37 years.

However, I am not one of those people who does things the same old way, just because they have always been done that way.  For example, I am not having a Fall Conference this year.  The business that used to be handled at Fall Conference, such as selection of sites for the next year's conventions and approval of our legislative platform, will be done at the fall board meeting on Sat. Sept. 30 in Shelbyville.  That evening we will have a wine tasting and auction as a fundraiser for the IWEF.  By doing everything in one day in that town, and ending fairly early in the evening, most of our members can attend without needing to pay for a motel room.  Our state convention will be held April 13 - 15, 2018, in Zionsville.

My theme for this year is "Every Woman Counts" and I mean that literally and figuratively:

1.  We count reps when we do our exercises.  We count calories or carbs or points or fat grams for our diets. We count our blessings.  Many of our hobbies require counting, such as Sudoku, golf, bowling, and knitting. We have to- do lists and top ten lists.  We count down the number of days left until the end of school or Christmas or retirement.  Every woman counts.

2.  Every woman is important, and she should make her wants and opinions known.  Every vote counts and every woman counts.

3.  We count on each other for help at work and in our organization.  I am counting on you to help make BPW great again.  If each member would recruit one more member this year, our membership would double.  Every member counts.

Finally, we are counting down to our INFBPW Centennial in the spring of 2019.  That will be a big celebration!

Judy M. Zell, C.P.A.

2017-2018 State President

Upcoming Events:

Our next event will be the Leadership Development workshop in Mt. Vernon on Nov. 3 & 4. If you have any members who are afraid to get up and talk in front of a group, the most common phobia in the country, send them to LD. If you have newer members who claim they don't know enough to be a BPW officer, send them to LD. We will give them practice in public speaking and teach them about parliamentary procedure and recruiting workers. They will also make new friends. the deadline to sign up is Oct. 14.

Overnight accommodations are available practically across the street at the Four Seasons Motel, 70 Highway 62 W. Call 812-838-4821 for reservations and tell them you are with BPW. A standard double room is only $82.00 plus tax; a deluxe double is $103.40 plus tax. A continental breakfast with homemade biscuits and gravy is included in the room rate.

We will start the LD program at 6:00 p.m. CDST, on Friday. Note that Mt. Vernon is on Central Time, which means that most of us gain an hour while we are driving there. The $60.00 Registration Fee includes the LD classes, supper on Friday evening, lunch, dinner, and snacks on Saturday. BPW members who have already taken Individual Development may come down and join us on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. CDST for the fried chicken dinner and final speeches.
